Equip adolescent readers to comprehend academic text

Boost achievement with explicit reading-for-understanding instruction. Tailored to meet the more complex literacy requirements of secondary school, Read to Achieve specifically targets the challenges faced by adolescent readers.

Each module provides:

• 45-50 minutes of intensive research-based instruction per lesson
• A systematic plan of action that improves fluency
• Word-learning and comprehension strategies students can apply to content –area classes such as science, history and geography
• Decoding instruction for multi-syllabic words

This programme is for students who can decode fluently, but have not mastered
• Comprehension
• Vocabulary
• Fluency

It is also for those students who struggle with:

• Other subjects and content-area lessons and coursework
• Reading in class / at home
• Note taking
• Studying and revising from notes
• Understandingcontent

Read to Achieve teaches comprehension strategies for other subject lessons and content-area classes, tailors instruction to secondary school literacy requirements, and targets the reading challenges adolescent readers face.

The reading behaviours we see are just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many other things going on beneath the surface hindering a students ability to progress their reading or achieve the results they need to continue into further education or a job when they leave school.



This programme is age appropriate for adolescent learners who require a different focus when it comes to reading instruction. These students need to be taught skills and strategies they’ll ultimately use in authentic narrative text in other classes, they need to
be given opportunities to develop higher order thinking skills, and they need to receive text-based, collaborative learning activities to promote problem-solving and metacognition.
